Congress Accuses BJD and BJP of 'Fixed Match' in Odisha Polls

In a striking statement on Tuesday, senior Congress leader Srikant Jena accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) of engaging in what he termed a "fixed match" in the political arena. Jena, who is contesting the election from Balasore and has served as a Union minister, voiced concerns over the plight of farmers and the escalating unemployment rates in the country. He suggested that an understanding between the BJP and BJD was apparent to the public even before the elections commenced.

BJD-BJP Fixed Match Claimed by Congress

Jena criticized the Narendra Modi-led government for not fulfilling its promises on job provision. He further targeted Odisha's Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik, who has been in power for 25 years, for leading the state into becoming number one in terms of poverty, unemployment, and migration. According to Jena, Odisha has the lowest per-capita income across India, while simultaneously allowing a select few corporates to exploit its mineral resources.

Reflecting on his tenure as Balasore's Member of Parliament from 2009 to 2014, Jena highlighted several developmental initiatives undertaken during that period. He lamented that since 2014 up to 2024, progress seemed to have stalled with only a marine police station being inaugurated. He also mentioned the establishment of a software technology park in Balasore, which has yet to become operational due to neglect from both state and central governments.

The allegations by Jena shed light on the complex dynamics between major political parties in Odisha and raise questions about their impact on development and governance in the state. With accusations of political collusion and concerns over economic indicators such as unemployment and poverty, these statements add a layer of intrigue to the political discourse in Odisha.
