Tragic Drowning of Child in Delhi Park Following Heavy Rainfall
A seven-year-old boy tragically drowned in a waterlogged park in Rohini after heavy rainfall. The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) reported that the child, along with friends, entered the fenced Chhat Ghat area despite a guard's warning. This incident occurred on Saturday evening while the boy was playing in the park.

The unfortunate event took place in Chhat Ghat within the district park, next to Aman Vihar resettlement colony in Rohini. The park spans 12 acres, and the Chhat Ghat area covers around 3,000 square metres with a depth of approximately 3.5 feet, according to a DDA official. The water body is surrounded by a grill fence, and residents have been cautioned against entering this area.
Incident Details
Despite the guard's warnings, seven to eight children were playing in the Chhat Ghat area where water had accumulated due to heavy rains. When the guard noticed one of the children drowning, he immediately rescued him and rushed him to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital. Unfortunately, the child was later declared dead.
On Saturday around 6:30 pm, a PCR call was received at Aman Vihar Police Station regarding the drowning incident in Sector 20 of Rohini. The police confirmed that they responded promptly to the distress call.
The DDA official emphasised that residents had been repeatedly warned not to enter the waterlogged area. Despite these warnings, children ventured into the fenced zone, leading to this tragic outcome.
The community is now mourning the loss of the young boy. Authorities are urging parents and guardians to ensure their children heed safety warnings, especially during adverse weather conditions.
This incident highlights the importance of adhering to safety guidelines in public spaces. The DDA continues to stress that such areas are off-limits for a reason and should be respected to prevent further tragedies.
The park remains under scrutiny as officials review safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. Enhanced vigilance and stricter enforcement of rules are being considered to safeguard visitors.
The tragic drowning serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by waterlogged areas following heavy rains. It underscores the need for community awareness and adherence to safety protocols.
Authorities are also exploring additional safety measures and possibly increasing signage around hazardous areas within parks. These steps aim to enhance public safety and prevent such unfortunate incidents from recurring.
The community's response has been one of grief and calls for better enforcement of safety regulations. The DDA is committed to ensuring that all necessary precautions are taken to protect park visitors.
In light of this tragedy, local authorities are urging everyone to remain vigilant and follow all posted warnings and guidelines in public spaces.
