Chhattisgarh PSC Recruitment Exam Irregularities: EOW Registers Case
The Chhattisgarh Polices Economic Offence Wing (EOW) has registered a case concerning alleged irregularities in the state Public Service Commission recruitment examination held during the previous Congress government. The investigation is ongoing.
The Economic Offence Wing (EOW) of the Chhattisgarh Police has registered a case in connection with alleged irregularities in the state Public Service Commission (CGPSC) recruitment examination conducted during the previous Congress government's tenure. The state government had earlier decided to have the matter investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

EOW Lodges Case Based on Home Department Information
The EOW registered the case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including criminal conspiracy, cheating, and relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1998. The action was taken based on information provided by the state's Home Department.
Complaints of Irregularities and Corruption
The Home Department had received complaints from former BJP MLA Nankiram Kanwar and others alleging irregularities and corruption in the CGPSC examination-2021, which was conducted for the recruitment of 170 posts. The state government subsequently decided to have the matter probed by the CBI.
Allegations of Misuse of Positions and Political Influence
According to the letter from the Home Department, prima facie evidence suggests that the then-chairman of CGPSC, Taman Singh Sonwani, the then-secretary, Jeevan Kishore Dhruv, the then-examination controller of CGPSC, and other public servants and politicians misused their positions and political influence. They are accused of manipulating the selection process in the recruitment process during 2020 and 2021, including the Assistant Professor selection exam 2021, and selecting their sons, daughters, and relatives in place of eligible candidates.
Political Targeting of Congress Over CGPSC Irregularities
Notably, during the election campaign for the November Assembly polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and other top BJP leaders had criticized the then-ruling Congress over alleged irregularities in CGPSC recruitments. They had promised to have the matter investigated if the BJP came to power.
Former BJP MLA's Petition in High Court
Former BJP MLA Nakiram Kawnar had filed a petition last year in the Chhattisgarh High Court seeking a directive for a fair and impartial investigation into the CGPSC exam 2021 by an independent agency, preferably the CBI.
The registration of the case by the EOW marks a significant development in addressing the allegations of irregularities and corruption in the CGPSC recruitment process. The investigation is expected to shed light on the extent of the alleged wrongdoing and bring those responsible to justice.
