Chhattisgarh BJP MLA Brijmohan Agrawal Attacked During Assembly Poll Campaign in Raipur

Seven-time Chhattisgarh BJP MLA Brijmohan Agrawal claims he was attacked during the Assembly poll campaign in state capital Raipur. Congress calls it a gimmick.

In a shocking incident, seven-time Chhattisgarh BJP MLA Brijmohan Agrawal claimed that he was attacked during an Assembly poll campaign in Raipur on Thursday. The veteran politician is seeking his eighth consecutive term from the Raipur City South Assembly segment and staged a sit-in protest at the City Kotwali police station with numerous supporters, demanding action against the alleged perpetrators.

Chhattisgarh BJP MLA Brijmohan Agrawal

Agrawal detailed the incident to reporters stating it occurred around 7 pm when he reached Madrasa Chowk in Baijnath Para area, a Muslim-dominated locality. He said that upon seeing a group of 20-25 youth, he assumed they were there to welcome him. However, things took an unexpected turn when some individuals allegedly tried to assault him after he urged them to vote for BJP.

Allegations Against Congress Leaders

The MLA further alleged those who assaulted him are close associates of Congress leader and Raipur Mayor Aijaz Dhebar and his brother Anwar Dhebar. He accused Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel of assigning Dhebar with ensuring Mahant Ram Sundar Das' victory by any means necessary. Agrawal also claimed that threats have been issued to their workers but no actions have been taken by the government or administration so far.

Police Investigation Underway

A police official confirmed that they are investigating Agrawal's claims while assuring justice will be served once all facts are ascertained. Meanwhile, Muslims in Raipur have denied involvement in such acts saying they maintain familial relations with Agrawal and would never resort to violence.

Congress Denies Allegations

The allegations were dismissed as mere gimmicks by Congress spokesperson Sushil Anand Shukla. He claimed that Agrawal was resorting to such tactics out of fear of an impending defeat at the hands of incumbent Mahant Ram Sundar Das. He also accused Agrawal and BJP of fabricating this story in a desperate attempt to play the communal card, given their failing election management strategies.

In conclusion, as the political temperature rises in Chhattisgarh ahead of elections, allegations and counter-allegations are being hurled by both sides. While one side accuses its opponents of physical assault and intimidation, the other side alleges it's a ploy to gain sympathy votes. With investigations underway, it remains to be seen how these events will unfold and what impact they will have on the forthcoming elections.
