Chhath Puja is an important Hindu festival that is mainly celebrated in Bihar and some regions of Nepal. The puja is dedicated to the worship of the Sun god and his wife Usha. During the occasion, devotees perform puja to thank god for supporting life on earth and seek the divine couple's blessing.

On the final day of Chhath, people visit a riverbank and offer prayers to the rising sun. Those who observe fast during the festival break their fast on this day. Many dishes like laddu, thekua and kheer are prepared as an offering. One of the main dishes prepared for the day is thekua. This is a simple dish made of wheat flour.

Chhath puja is performed on Kartika Shukla Shashthi, which is the sixth day of the month of Kartika in the Vikram Samvat. This falls typically in the month of October or November in the Gregorian English Calendar. The four day festival started on 24th of October and will end on 27th of October.

Last day of Chhath
It is believed that the celebration of Chhath puja may predate to the ancient Vedas, as the rituals performed during the puja are similar to the ones mentioned in Rig Veda, in which the Sun god is worshipped.

Chhath 2017 began on October 24 with Nahay-Khay when devotees take a holy bath and prepare a traditional meal. It was followed by Lohanda and Kharna on October 25. On this day, vratins observe a fast and break it after sunset by consuming holy delicacy, mostly kheer (made of rice, milk and sugar). After consuming this, they start off the 36-hour-long fast or Chhath Puja vrat. On October 26, first offering or evening offering called Sandhya Arghya or Pehla Argh will take place.
