Chattisgarh: Sai Baba devotees clash with Shankaracharya's followers

Shankaracharya raises Sai Baba issue
Raipur, August 25: Sai Baba's devotees and Dwarkapeeth Shankaracharya Swaroopananda Saraswati's followers engaged in a scuffle on Monday during a Dharma Sansad programme in Kawardha city of Kabirdham district in Chattisgarh.

According to reports, the alleged clashed broke out during a debate on Sai Baba between his devotees and Shankaracharya's followers.

The situation became so worse that police had to intervene in the matter and more personel were deployed to avert any mishap.

On Sunday, 2-day programme of Dharma Sansad began in Kawardha, where around 400 religious leaders have gathered.

Yesterday, the point of discussion was whether the status of saint should be entitled to Sai Baba or not.

In June this year, Shankaracharya had claimed that Sai Baba was a Muslim and he should not be worshipped by the Hindus.

The 90-year-old spiritual leader directed the Sai disciples not to chant the name of Lord Ram and not to take a dip in the Ganga for purification.
