Former RG Kar Hospital Principal Questioned Again in Doctor's Rape-Murder Case

The former principal of R G Kar Medical College and Hospital, Dr. Sandip Ghosh, faced extensive questioning by the CBI for the second consecutive day on Saturday. This interrogation is part of an investigation into the alleged rape and murder of a doctor at the state-run medical facility, officials stated. After being questioned on Friday, which extended into early Saturday, Ghosh was summoned again to the CBI office for further questioning.

Ex-Principal Grilled in Rape-Murder Case

He arrived at the CBI office in Salt Lake with several documents just before 10:30 am on Saturday and remained there until the latest reports. During this session, officials focused on his whereabouts on the night of the postgraduate trainee's death, who had called him to report the incident, and his initial reaction to the news. The CBI also cross-checked his statements with those of other medical staff present that night.

CBI Investigates Weekly Roster

The agency also examined the weekly roster of the chest medicine department where the victim was assigned. It was noted that she had been working gruelling shifts of up to 36 or even 48 hours at a time. The CBI has compiled a list of around 40 individuals, including doctors and police officers, for questioning as part of their investigation. So far, over 20 people have been interrogated.

Separate teams from the central investigating agency visited multiple locations related to the case. They went to RG Kar hospital to collect samples for forensic testing and then proceeded to Sambhunath Pandit Street in South Kolkata. There, they spoke with Sanjay Roy's mother about his recent activities and recorded her written statement.

Psychologists Join Investigation

On Saturday, two psychologists from New Delhi joined the investigation in Kolkata. The CBI is attempting to map out all locations visited by Sanjay Roy, the prime accused, on the day of the incident. They are also seeking information from his friends, doctors, and police officers who know him.

During initial questioning, Dr. Ghosh was asked about his immediate response upon learning about the doctor's death. He was also questioned about whom he instructed to inform the family and how and who contacted the police. Some of his answers were reportedly convoluted.

Dr. Ghosh resigned from his position two days after the trainee doctor's body was found on August 9. He was allowed to go home early Saturday before being asked to return for further questioning.

The CBI team also visited the barracks of Kolkata Police’s Armed Forces fourth battalion in Salt Lake, where Sanjay Roy was staying. The investigators are trying to piece together Roy's movements on that day by talking to various acquaintances.

The investigation continues as officials work to uncover more details surrounding this tragic incident.
