The CBI has accused Karti of receiving bribes from companies that benefited from his father's decisions. Both father and son have rejected the allegations.

The CBI is also set to call in for questioning officials who were part of the Foreign Investment Promotion Board which had recommended these proposals. The FIPB used to approve foreign investment deals of up to a certain value. The FIPB made its recommendations to the finance minister. However the Narendra Modi government disbanded the board earlier this year.

The CBI and ED are looking into approvals granted between 2004 and 2008. Now the agencies would also look into the approvals that were granted between 2012 and 2014. Further details of possible slush funds sent abroad to buy assets have been sought from the Income Tax department.
