Cannot curb hate speeches, its a fundamental right: SC

Supreme Court
New Delhi, March 3:The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a PIL by ML Sharma seeking intervention by the court in directing the Election Commission to curb hate speeches.

Dismissing the plea, the Apex court said that it could not curb the fundamental right of the people to express themselves.

With the Lok Sabha elections knocking at the door and politicians taking rounds of the country convincing people of their party's abilities, hate speech has become a common thing.

The Muzaffarnagar riots that rooted in the hate speech of the SP leaders took an ugly turn killing many and rendering several homeless.
