BRS MLA Kaushik Reddy Arrested for Allegedly Obstructing and Threatening Police in Hyderabad

BRS MLA P Kaushik Reddy was detained on Thursday for allegedly obstructing and threatening a police officer, according to authorities. The arrest took place at his Kondapur residence. As he was being taken away, Reddy claimed the arrest was unlawful. Several BRS leaders, including former minister T Harish Rao, were also held by police when they attempted to visit Reddy and reportedly argued with officers.

Kaushik Reddy Arrested in Hyderabad Incident

Protests erupted across the state as BRS supporters condemned the arrests of Kaushik Reddy and the detention of Harish Rao and other party members. Harish Rao, along with 20 other BRS leaders, was taken to the Gachibowli police station but later released. A senior police official confirmed their release. Speaking after his release, Rao criticised Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, accusing him of illegal detentions and violating Constitutional rights.

Political Tensions Rise Amid Arrests

Rao alleged that the Congress government used police force against unemployed youth and Scheduled Tribes during protests over various issues. He accused Revanth Reddy of attempting to silence opposition voices through police actions. Meanwhile, BRS MLC K Kavitha visited both Harish Rao at Gachibowli police station and Kaushik Reddy at Banjara Hills police station, condemning their arrests.

K Kavitha criticised what she described as a "police rule" reminiscent of Indira Gandhi's emergency period in the state. She demanded the withdrawal of what she called illegal cases against BRS leaders and warned that public dissent against the Congress government would grow. The charges against Reddy and others stemmed from a complaint by the Banjara Hills Police Station Inspector.

Allegations of Phone Tapping

The complaint accused Reddy and his group of unlawful assembly, obstructing a public servant, criminal intimidation, wrongful restraint, public nuisance, and rioting. Police reported that when the Inspector was leaving for emergency duty, Reddy's group blocked the vehicle despite being advised to address their grievances with another official at the station.

On Wednesday, Reddy had visited the police station to file a complaint about alleged phone tapping. He suspected his calls were being monitored without authorisation and implicated Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and an IG-level police officer in the matter.

The situation highlights ongoing political tensions in the region, with accusations flying between parties. The events have sparked widespread protests and debates over the use of police power in political matters. As these developments unfold, they continue to draw significant attention from both political circles and the public.
