Allahabad High Court Orders Boundary Demarcation Between Haridwar and Bijnor

The Allahabad High Court has directed the district magistrates of Haridwar and Bijnor to erect pillars to demarcate the boundaries between Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. The court also asked the petitioner to ensure his presence on the date and time fixed by it.

In a significant move to resolve a long-standing boundary dispute between the states of Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh, the Allahabad High Court has issued directives to the district magistrates of Haridwar and Bijnor to demarcate the boundaries between the two states.

Boundary Dispute Resolved: Pillars to be Erected Between Haridwar and Bijnor

Court's Order

The court's order came in response to a writ petition filed by Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Bijnor district. A division bench comprising Justice Saumitra Dayal Singh and Justice Manjive Shukla heard the case and passed the order on January 10, 2024.

The court directed the district magistrates of Haridwar and Bijnor to carry out the demarcation exercise in the presence of the petitioner on January 23, 2024. The court also instructed that appropriate demarcation pillars be erected at the boundary points after the completion of the demarcation process.

Petitioner's Contentions

In his petition, Gurpreet Singh contended that due to boundary differences between Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh, his agricultural land situated in Himmatpur village of Bela tehsil in Bijnor district was facing illegal interference from the state of Uttarakhand.

The petitioner urged the court to intervene and direct the geographical department of the Survey of India to form an expert committee along with revenue officers from Bijnor and Haridwar districts to demarcate the boundaries accurately.

Agreement Between State Counsels

During the court proceedings, the state counsel of Uttar Pradesh, S C Upadhyay, and the deputy advocate general of Uttarakhand, Krishna Singh, expressed their agreement on resolving the issue through the revenue authorities of both states.

The Allahabad High Court's order is a positive step towards resolving the boundary dispute between Haridwar and Bijnor. The demarcation of boundaries will help prevent further conflicts and ensure the protection of the rights and interests of the affected landowners.
