Bihar Government Unveils 7-Year Rural Road Maintenance Plan
The Government of Bihar has launched an ambitious seven-year plan to maintain rural roads across the state, ensuring they remain in top condition like national highways. The project, approved at the Cabinet level, covers 11,251 roads spanning 19,867 kilometers, with an estimated cost of ₹17,266 crore. The tender process began just five days after approval.
Strict Quality Control and Transparency
The plan includes 650 contract packages ranging from ₹10 crore to ₹50 crore, with a maximum cap of ₹50 crore per contract to maintain transparency. Contractors will be held accountable for road quality-if any deficiencies are found, monthly payments will be reduced.

Emphasis on Timeliness
The project is being closely monitored by Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena, with the goal of completing the tender process by April 2025 and initial repairs by June 15, 2025. Strengthening work will continue into the 2025-26 financial year.
Modern Technology for Road Monitoring
To ensure effective implementation, all roads will be geo-tagged for online tracking. Additionally, citizens can report potholes or repair issues through the "Humara Bihar Hamari Sadak" mobile app.
Sustainability and Rural Connectivity
The project also focuses on eco-friendly practices, utilizing plastic waste in construction to enhance durability. Furthermore, under the Additional Sulabh Sampakarta Yojana and Tola Sampakarta Yojana, internal village roads will be improved, boosting rural connectivity.
Boost to Economy and Employment
Better roads will improve transportation for farmers, making it easier to sell produce in markets. The initiative is expected to generate employment and strengthen Bihar's rural economy, marking a significant step in the state's infrastructure development.
