Bihar Bridge Collapse: After Araria, Another Bridge Crumbles In Siwan; Video Goes Viral

Another incident of bridge collapse has been reported from Bihar. Four days after a flyover collapsed in Araria, a bridge collapsed in Siwan district's Darounda area. According to reports, this is the fifth incident of bridge collapse in last 5 years, which raised everyone's eyebrows.

In the latest incident, a 100-metre bridge over a canal in the Ramgarha panchayat of the Darounda block collapsed from one end and its video has created buzz on the internet, where social media users are continuously tagging top government officials demanding an explanation.

The reports said this bridge was 30 years old. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported in the bridge collapse incident.

Talking to the media, an administrative official of Siwan district said: "The brick wall and pillars connecting the bridge to the approach road weakened after the canal was recently dug. The matter will be probed."

Four days ago, on June 18, everyone's attention was caught by videos showing a major portion of an 182-metre bridge collapse at Sikti in Araria. That bridge was recently made by a Central agency costing around Rs 12 crore. In that incident, no lost of live was reported.

Taking cognizance of the incident, Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government ordered a special inquiry to find the culprits.

Earlier, in March, a portion of an under-construction bridge over Kosi River in Supaul collapsed, which claimed live of a labourer. The project to build a 10.5 km-long bridge between Bakour in Supaul and Bheja in Madhubani was worth Rs 1,200 crore.
