New Delhi, July 28: The chargesheet that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed in connection with the ISIS Indian module points out the roles played by the Tablighi Jamaat and the Jamaat-e-Islami.

The ISIS may be a new phenomenon, but some members of the group today had taken a radical path several years ago thanks to sermons issued by the above mentioned groups.

Before ISIS there was Tablighi Jamaat

For several years now, the Intelligence Bureau has been warning about the role of the TJ or JeI. They have played a vital role in the radicalisation of the youth. It would not be entirely correct to say that the ISIS changed the perception of these youth.

The ground work was laid several years back and the ISIS only became a vehicle for them to drive across their point.

Lectures and propaganda

The NIA chargesheet states much before the ISIS came into existence, members of the TJ would circulate propaganda material. At that time around the distribution of such material was not on the internet. They were sermons issued in select Mosques and pamphlets and compact discs were distributed.

While going through the chargesheet it becomes clear that the ground work was laid several years back. The chargesheet also makes a mention about Maulana Masood Azhar, the chief of the Jaish-e-Mohammad and how his speeches had inspired several in India.

The NIA speaks about the literature of the Jaish which had been distributed in India. The literature included Hijra, Jihad ke Maasail, Al Furqan Wal Mizzan, Afghan Jihad and Wazb e Hind ka Shehbaz. Such literature in the possession of the accused made it clear that their radicalisation did not take after the ISIS came to the forefront, but the process had begun years back.
