Ban 'Bhojpuri' Songs! Neetu Chandra Files PIL Against Vulgar Content

Bollywood actress and National Award winner Neetu Chandra Srivastava on Wednesday filed a PIL against vulgar Bhojpuri and Hindi songs. She urged the Patna High Court to take cognizance in the matter and impose a complete ban on such content.

Known as Bihar's daughter, Neetu expressed concerns about the safety of school-going girls and suggested legal action against singers who produce these songs.

On International Women's Day, Neetu highlighted the negative impact of these songs on women and girls in Bihar. "Vulgar Bhojpuri and Hindi songs are not leaving the girls and women going to school and college in Bihar and they are forced to walk on the road with their eyes down. Due to these songs, women do not even like to watch TV at home. Many singers singing such songs have gained fame today, which can become an obstacle in the development of society and country," she stated.

Impact on Society

Neetu believes that these songs contribute to insecurity among women and can negatively influence children. She argued that they could lead society astray while diminishing respect for women. The actress called upon Bihari citizens to oppose these songs strongly. She also advocated for filing cases against singers who perform such music.

The PIL was filed by Shashi Priya in Patna High Court under the guidance of Senior Advocate Nivedita Nirvikar. It emphasised that treating women as objects leads to painful consequences. The petition seeks a legal framework similar to laws banning liquor, aimed at protecting women from harmful influences.

Call for Government Action

Neetu questioned why the government couldn't ban vulgar songs if it could prohibit alcohol to protect women from abusive husbands. She stressed that without ensuring women's safety on roads, development remains unattainable. Her demand is for a total prohibition on producing and playing such music in Bihar.

The actress's initiative reflects her commitment to improving societal conditions for women in her home state. By addressing this issue legally, she hopes to create a safer environment where girls can pursue education without fear or discomfort.
