Bahraich Violence: Nupur Sharma Apologises For Remarks On Ram Gopal Mishra Murder
Former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma has apologised after making controversial remarks about the violence in Bahraich, where Ram Gopal Mishra was killed. During a gathering, she claimed Mishra was shot 35 times and mutilated. Her speech went viral, leading to backlash and forcing her to retract her statements.
Sharma's apology was posted on X (formerly Twitter). She stated, "What I repeated about the late Ram Gopal Mishra was based on what I heard in the media. I was unaware of the clarifications in the postmortem report. I withdraw my statements and apologise."

Public Reaction and Police Clarification
The incident quickly gained traction on social media, causing public outrage. Critics questioned why Sharma would make such claims from a prominent platform, especially after Badaun police had dismissed rumours of extreme brutality surrounding Mishra's death.
The police clarified that Mishra died from gunshot wounds and denied any allegations of torture. They urged people not to spread misinformation and stressed the importance of maintaining communal harmony.
Nupur Sharma's Remarks at Brahmin Conference
During a Brahmin conference in Bulandshahr, Sharma expressed support for Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's actions. She questioned the legality of Mishra's murder, asking if it was acceptable to shoot someone 35 times or pull out their nails.
As criticism grew, Sharma found herself defending her statements. Her comments not only sparked controversy but also raised concerns about public figures' responsibilities when discussing sensitive issues.
The Role of Social Media
This controversy highlights social media's role in shaping public discourse and emphasises accuracy when reporting sensitive matters. Sharma's apology serves as a reminder of these dynamics.
