Form 26AS is a consolidated Annual Information Statement that summarizes all tax-related information available with the Income Tax Department, such as the Tax Deducted at Source (TDS), Tax Collected at Source (TCS), Advance Tax / Self-Assessment Tax / Regular Assessment Tax deposited, Refund received during a financial year (if any), Details of any Specified Financial Transactions (SFT) (if any), Details of Tax Deducted on sale of immovable property u/s194IA (in case seller of such property), TDS Defaults (if any), Information relating to demand and refund, Information relating to pending and completed proceedings.

How to Download Form 26AS:

  • Visit the income tax department's e-filing portal
  • Enter valid user ID details (Your PAN).
  • Enter the password and continue.
  • Navigate to 'e-file'.
  • Click 'Income Tax Returns' and select 'View Form 26AS' from the dropdown list.

If there are any mismatches in TDS amounts or incorrect reporting of income, to rectify them during the tax filing process, first inform your employer immediately.

They can fix these errors by filing a revised TDS return with the tax authorities. Next, verify that the revised details are reflected accurately in Form 26AS. This confirms correctly updated tax credits.

In case of a tax credit mismatch notice from tax authorities, one can respond to it online through the e-filing portal of the income tax department.
