As Assam gets NRC final draft ready, IB warns of big trouble by Lashkar, ISI
Guwahati, July 30: A high alert has been declared in Assam as the final draft of the Assam National Regiser of Citizens (NRC) is being published. The NRC will feature the names, addresses and photographs of all Indian citizens who have been residing in the northeastern state before March 25 1971.
There is heavy security across the state to prevent any law and order problem. Moreover the Intelligence Bureau has now warned that following this exercise, the Lashkar-e-Tayiba may activate its modules through Bangladesh and West Bengal and create trouble.

The IB warns that the ISI backed Lashkar would look to foment trouble in the area on communal lines. It would target the disgruntled elements and get them on board to create trouble, the IB also says.
The IB has also said that there is fake news that is being manufactured to create trouble in the area. Security will need remain on the highest levels of alert for next couple of months as there are chances of the ISI trying to create havoc.
With the elections in Pakistan over, one would have anticipated more trouble in the Valley. However, all intelligence reports point towards the northeastern states, where there is a greater possibility of trouble.
The IB goes on to state that the trouble would created to pressurise the government to withdraw the NRC. Several lakhs of people would be asked to leave if found to be illegal immigrants. The exercise has been dubbed as a controversial one, but the Supreme Court was adamant that the NRC be done.
The NRC is being undertaken under the supervision of the Supreme Court with March 24 1971 as the cut-off date for genuine Indian citizens in Assam.
