Patient's Attendant Apologises for Attempted Entry into Female Doctor's Room
A patient's attendant, who allegedly attempted to enter the room of a 25-year-old female junior doctor at Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital (MYH) in an intoxicated state, has issued a written apology for his behaviour. This incident occurred on the night between August 31 and September 1 at MYH, one of the largest government hospitals in Madhya Pradesh, affiliated with Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College (MGMMC) in Indore.

The hospital administration promptly formed a four-member committee to investigate the incident. MGMMC Dean Dr. Sanjay Dixit confirmed that the junior doctor accepted the attendant's apology and expressed her desire for no further action. "The attendant of a patient admitted to MYH has apologised in writing to the female junior doctor for his misbehaviour. Accepting the apology, the junior doctor has written to our inquiry committee, saying she does not want any further action in the matter," Dr. Dixit stated.
Security Measures at MYH
In response to this incident, several measures are being implemented to enhance security for female doctors at MYH and other affiliated hospitals. Dr. Dixit mentioned that sirens and panic buttons would be installed at various locations within the hospitals. These devices will allow female doctors to alert management immediately in case of emergencies or unpleasant situations.
Additionally, security personnel will be equipped with breath analysers to detect alcohol consumption among individuals within the hospital premises. This step aims to ensure that anyone suspected of being under the influence can be quickly identified and dealt with appropriately.
Junior Doctors Association's Response
Following the incident, the Junior Doctors Association (JDA) demanded that an FIR be registered against the attendant. They also called for increased security measures at MYH, especially in light of a recent tragic event involving the rape and murder of a resident doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
The JDA emphasised the need for heightened vigilance and stricter security protocols to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future. The association's concerns highlight the ongoing need for robust safety measures to protect healthcare professionals in their workplaces.
Efforts are underway to ensure that female doctors feel safe and secure while performing their duties. The installation of panic buttons and breath analysers is part of a broader strategy to create a safer environment within healthcare facilities.
The hospital administration's swift response and commitment to improving security demonstrate their dedication to addressing such issues promptly and effectively. Ensuring the safety of medical staff remains a top priority as they continue to serve patients under challenging conditions.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining a secure environment for healthcare workers, who play a crucial role in providing essential services to the community.
