Amidst Kannada pride campaign Congress calls it a ‘manifesto’ not ‘pranalike’
The Congress led by Siddaramaiah has made the election about Kannada pride. This was clearly an attempt to put the BJP on the back-foot by dubbing it as a Hindi party.
However, the Congress had to face some amount of embarrassment with many questioning the use of English words in its manifesto which was also released in Kannada. The cover page of the manifesto in Kannada had the word 'manifesto' written on it. The Kannada word for manifesto is 'pranalike.' Further, in the region-wise manifesto, the spelling of 'pranalike' was wrong.
The manifesto had other problems as well. For instance, the Mangalya Bhagya scheme does not find a mention in the Kannada version of the manifesto.
Targeting the Congress for the mistakes, both Yeddyurappa and Kumaraswamy have asked Siddaramaiah to apologise. Shobha Karandlage of the BJP said," none of the Congress leaders bothered to read the Kannada manifesto. The mistakes which are many reflect the casual manner in which the Congress has drafted its manifesto. It is an insult to Kannadigas, she also said while adding that work on the manifesto was outsourced to a PR agency.
