AIIMS Delhi Doctor Narrowly Escapes Car Attack; FIR Registered for Attempted Homicide

A senior doctor at AIIMS Delhi narrowly escaped a car attack on August 18. The driver allegedly attempted to strike him multiple times, leading to an FIR for attempted homicide.

A senior doctor at AIIMS narrowly avoided injury when a car driver allegedly attempted to run him over on the hospital grounds, according to police. The incident took place on August 18, around 4 pm, near Gate Number 1 of AIIMS. The doctor noticed a traffic jam caused by the car while he was passing through the campus.

The complainant reported that the vehicle was obstructing traffic. When he signalled for the driver to reverse and allow other vehicles to pass, the driver allegedly sped up and hit him, a senior police officer explained. The driver did not stop after the initial collision.

Police Investigation and Actions

The driver reportedly struck the doctor two more times and dragged him along with the car before he managed to escape. An FIR under Section 110 for attempt to commit culpable homicide of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been filed at Hauz Khas Police Station based on the complaint.

CCTV footage from cameras on the campus has been seized, and eyewitnesses are being identified, noted the officer. "We are taking the matter seriously, and multiple teams are working to identify and nab the accused. The vehicle number has been noted, and technical surveillance is being used to track the suspect," said the officer.

Ongoing Investigation

Further investigation aims to determine the motive behind the driver's actions and whether alcohol or drugs influenced him during the incident, police added. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspect using all available resources.
