Actor Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam Credits Rs 20 Lakh Each to Karur Stampede Victims' Families

Actor Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam has credited Rs 20 lakh to each of the 39 families affected by the Karur stampede, amounting to Rs 7.8 crore in total relief. The funds were transferred directly to the victims' bank accounts to provide immediate support.

Actor-politician Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party has announced that Rs 20 lakh has been transferred to each family affected by the Karur stampede on September 27. The funds were directly deposited into the bank accounts of the bereaved families, according to a statement from the party.

Relief Efforts and Financial Support

The TVK party shared on social media platform ‘X’ that a total of Rs 7.8 crore was distributed among 39 families. Although Vijay initially intended to personally meet and console the families before distributing the aid, he prioritised ensuring they received the financial support promptly. A TVK representative mentioned that other affected families would also receive compensation soon.

Selvarani, who lost her daughter in the tragedy, confirmed to reporters in Karur that TVK members had collected her bank details for the transfer. "The TVK members had obtained my bank account details for crediting Rs 20 lakh. Accordingly, the amount was transferred to my account today," she said.

Additional Support and Future Plans

In addition to the fatalities, over 60 people sustained injuries during the stampede. The TVK had previously declared that Rs 20 lakh would be given to families who lost loved ones and Rs 2 lakh to those injured. The party also plans to adopt these families, offering long-term assistance in education and employment.

Vijay reaffirmed his commitment to supporting those affected and expressed his intention to visit them once he receives official approval. "We are deeply saddened by the unbearably painful incident that occurred in Karur and are mourning the loss of our family members. We assure you once again that we will be there to comfort and support you in every way possible in this situation," Vijay stated in a letter.

He reiterated that as announced on September 28, Rs 20 lakh was sent via RTGS to each victim's family. "We kindly request you to accept it. With Gods grace, we will get through this difficult time," he added.
