In a suspected hit and run case, Mete was knocked down and sustained severe injuries to his head. As he bled from the mouth, nose and head, onlookers on the Bhosari road in Pune chose to click pictures and shoot videos instead of rushing him to the hospital. Much time was wasted before a dentist, Kartikraj Kate arrived at the spot and decided to rush the accident victim to the hospital. "I was on my way to my clinic at around 6.30 PM on Wednesday when I noticed a crowd. I walked into the crowd and saw a man soaked in blood, still moving but bleeding. None had come forward to help the man," said Kartikraj Kate.

The dentist then hailed an auto and took Mete to Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital in Pimpri where he was declared dead by the doctors. "While coming to the hospital I noticed tyre marks on his abdomen. He stopped breathing and I administered CPR but after some time he stopped responding. The doctors took an electrocardiogram at the hospital and declared him brought dead. His life could have been saved had the onlookers around taken him to the hospital immediately," he added.
