AAP 'tsunami' makes Delhi 'Congress mukt' assembly
New Delhi, Feb 11: Modi-led BJP must be in big shock after it was routed by fledgling Aam Aadmi party in historic Delhi Assembly election. Though it was expected that Arvind Kejriwal led party will defeat the Saffron party, but the way rookie party crushed the 'giant BJP', it was really unbelievable.
On the other side, the Congress which was fighting the election to give filip to its 'lost confidence' once again failed miserably. The oldest party of India failed to even open the account in the election.
In the political history of India after country got independence, this is the only second time when not a single Congress MLA has been elected in the assembly election. Before Delhi, in 2014 Andhra Pradesh Assembly election also, Congress had failed to open an account. After most of the seats were grabbed by AAP and remaining by BJP, Delhi Assembly will be second of its kind after Andhra Pradesh which could be termed as 'Congress mukt '.
Biggest humiliation for Congress was that out of 70 , 62 candidates failed to even save their deposits in the Delhi election. The big Congress stalwarts who had to gulp this bitter pill are poll committee chief Ajay Maken, former MP Mahabal Mishra, Harun Yusuf, Kiran Walia and Yoganand Sastri. More than 30 candidates could not even touch10, 000 mark.
Taking cue from 2015 Delhi election, Saffron and Congress party should hammer out their head. The AAP 'tsunami' really has given national parties BJP, Congress a reason to rethink about their brand of politics. If these parties want to maintain their charm among voters, they will have to recalibrate their strategy.
