AAP Alleges ED Acts as BJP's Political Wing in Court Stand

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has openly criticized the Enforcement Directorate (ED), claiming it operates as a political arm of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This accusation came to light after the ED's recent statement in the Delhi High Court, indicating its intention to name AAP as an accused in the ongoing money laundering case linked to the Delhi excise policy scam. The controversy centers around allegations of irregularities and undue advantages in the modification of the excise policy, which has led to a high-profile investigation involving former deputy chief minister of Delhi, Manish Sisodia.

AAP Criticises EDs Political Bias

During a court session on Tuesday, while opposing Sisodia's bail application, the ED made its stance clear. AAP has responded strongly, denouncing the investigation as baseless and asserting that it is aimed at undermining the party. According to AAP, the ED's case relies solely on statements from accused individuals who have since become approvers, all of whom purportedly have connections with the BJP. The party alleges that this investigation was designed from the start to implicate AAP members unjustly, leading to their arrests and damaging the party's reputation.

AAP has also highlighted what it sees as a lack of evidence against its members. Despite over two years of investigations and more than 500 raids conducted by the ED, AAP claims that not a single piece of incriminating evidence or illicit funds has been traced back to any of its leaders. The party points to Sarath Reddy, identified as the central figure in the scam, alleging his financial contributions to the BJP as evidence of a biased investigation. AAP argues that if the probe were impartial, high-ranking BJP officials would be under scrutiny instead.

The legal proceedings concerning Sisodia's involvement in both money laundering and corruption cases have reached a critical juncture, with the Delhi High Court reserving its judgment on his bail pleas. The ED's counsel informed Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma that AAP would soon be listed as a co-accused in an upcoming prosecution complaint charge sheet related to the case. This development follows Sisodia's arrest by both the CBI and ED earlier this year, with charges stemming from alleged irregularities in the excise policy implemented by the Delhi government between November 2021 and September 2022.

The excise policy in question was introduced on November 17, 2021, but was subsequently withdrawn by September 2022 amid growing allegations of corruption. The policy's modification and implementation have been at the heart of this controversy, leading to significant political and legal fallout. Sisodia's resignation from his cabinet position on February 28, 2023, marked a pivotal moment in this ongoing saga.

This case continues to unfold against a backdrop of intense political rivalry and accusations of misuse of federal agencies for political gains. As developments occur, all eyes remain on the judicial proceedings and their implications for those involved.
