76 drivers prosecuted in drive against app-based cabs in Delhi
New Delhi, Jan 24: In a major crackdown on app-based cab services in the national capital, Delhi Traffic Police today prosecuted 76 such taxi drivers including one of Uber and impounded more than 30 cabs for violations of the ban imposed on them last month by the city government.
According to Delhi Police, in a drive to curb app-based cabs, drivers of 76 such cabs were prosecuted, which included 67 Ola cabs, one from Uber and eight others.

"Till last count, we had also impounded more than 30 such cabs," said a senior police official. Yesterday, US-based taxi booking firm Uber had announced resumption of services in the city, following which Delhi Government had said that the company cannot operate as the ban imposed on it last month has not been revoked.
Sources had said that Delhi Government will consider it "totally illegal" if Uber resumes its service without getting license from the Transport Department. The Delhi government had banned Uber and 20 other such companies, including Ola Cabs, from operating in Delhi following the rape of a 27-year-old woman executive on December 5, 2014 night by a driver of Uber taxi.
