Delhi Chief Minister Reports 66% Completion of Desilting Work to Prevent Waterlogging This Monsoon

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that over 66% of the desilting work in the city has been completed. This effort is part of preparations to address waterlogging before the monsoon season. A total of 190 pumps have been deployed citywide, including 40 at permanent stations, 106 temporary ones, and 44 mobile units ready for immediate use.

Delhi CM Reports Progress on Desilting Work

Monsoon Preparedness and Infrastructure Development

In a recent review meeting with the Irrigation and Flood Control Department, Gupta emphasised the need to finish desilting by May 31. The meeting revealed that 66.29% of this work is already done. To expedite progress, 66 advanced machines like hydraulic excavators and trash skimmers are being used to clear silt effectively.

The chief minister instructed that both desilting and culvert construction be completed urgently before the monsoon arrives. This directive aims to ensure the city's drainage system is fully functional to prevent flooding during heavy rains.

Environmental Initiatives and Urban Greenery

During the meeting, plans for a new park on approximately 50 acres in Uttam Nagar were also discussed. This land, currently encroached upon, belongs to the Irrigation and Flood Control Department. The government intends to develop Atal Park here, focusing on environmental protection and enhancing urban greenery.

Additionally, Gupta reviewed plans for road construction along the Najafgarh drain. The proposal includes a 5.94-km two-lane road from Jhatikra Bridge to Chhawla Bridge. Further development involves a 54.83-km two-lane road on both sides from Chhawla Bridge to Basai Darapur Bridge.

The statement highlighted that these infrastructure projects aim to improve connectivity and reduce congestion in the area. By enhancing road networks and drainage systems, the government seeks to mitigate waterlogging issues while promoting sustainable urban development.
