Residents Garlands 108 Service Ambulance Staff After Late Arrival at Madhya Pradesh Accident

In Madhya Pradesh, residents garlanded the driver and EMT of a late-arriving 108 service ambulance at an accident scene, revealing ongoing service challenges.

In Madhya Pradesh's Barwani district, a unique protest unfolded when a 108 service ambulance arrived late at an accident site. Instead of expressing anger, locals in Anjad town welcomed the ambulance driver and emergency medical technician with garlands and coconuts. This incident occurred about 20 kilometres from the district headquarters, highlighting issues with the emergency response system.

Eyewitnesses reported that the ambulance reached the scene nearly an hour after a collision between two motorcycles. Five individuals were injured, with two seriously hurt people taken to the hospital in private vehicles. The delayed ambulance eventually transported the remaining three injured persons. Girish Chauhan, a local resident, explained their unusual protest aimed to draw attention to the service's inefficiencies.

Service Disruptions and Local Concerns

The 108 ambulance service in Anjad has been non-operational for almost two months. Kamlesh Chauhan, Barwani district manager of the 108 service, revealed that ambulances were temporarily reassigned for the Panchakroshi Yatra pilgrimage. This event attracts numerous devotees of Lord Shiva, impacting local emergency services. An ambulance was dispatched from the district headquarters once they learned about the accident.

Dr. Surekha Jamre, Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO), acknowledged that 12 out of 38 ambulances in Barwani are currently out of service. She stated, "People involved in managing them have been fined for negligence. Further fines will be imposed on those found negligent in providing services." This highlights ongoing challenges within the district's emergency response infrastructure.

Community's Call for Improvement

The community hopes their peaceful protest will lead to improvements in ambulance services. Girish Chauhan expressed optimism that their actions might prompt authorities to address these issues. The incident underscores the need for reliable emergency services to ensure timely assistance during critical situations.
