Telangana Horror: 8 Men Barge Into House, Gang Rape 15-Year Old Girl

In a shocking incident, a minor girl was gang-raped by eight men on Monday, triggering protests from localities and political parties.

The victim had moved to Meerpet recently with her cousin after losing her parents. On Monday, eight men barged into her house and sexually assaulted the victim before dragging her upstairs of the home to rape her.

"Three of them took the girl upstairs, while others threatened her brother and the other children at knifepoint. The three men took turns to rape her," Hindustan Times quoted a police officer as saying.

Seven special police teams have been formed to nab the culprits involved in the incident, LB Nagar deputy commissioner of police (DCP) B Sai Sree. "We have registered a case of gangrape on a minor and also under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act," she said.

The victim's cousin alerted the neighbours who informed the police, the report said. "We have examined the closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras to track down the accused. We are yet to apprehend them. We are also investigating whether they had any previous enmity with the victim's family," the police officer added.

The victim's brother, who lodged a formal complaint with the Meerpet police, narrated that they originally resided with their parents in Lal Bazar area in the southern part of Hyderabad. Following the demise of their parents, they moved in with their cousin. The boy was employed at a flex board store, while his sister worked as a salesgirl at a textile shop located in Dilsukhnagar.

Meanwhile, the BJP has condemned the state government over the incident.

BJP National Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla, on Twitter, said, "Multiple gang rapes of minors in Telangana. What is happening in Telangana? We all remember the Jubilee Hills rape issue. Now back-to-back gang rapes of minors in Hyderabad: 16-year-old Dalit girl was gang-raped by a gang of men at her house in Nandanavanam Colony- Meerpet Peddapalli: a 15-year-old girl who was gang-raped in Appannapet area of Peddapalli district on August 14, died a day later." Referring to the statement of the state Home Minister, the BJP leader said, "Now who is responsible when minors are raped in their homes?"
