Telangana HC Seeks Urgent Response Over Missing Medical Support In Judicial Buildings

The Telangana High Court requested a thorough answer from its Registrar on Wednesday after taking serious notice of the lack of emergency medical services in the state's court complexes. The action follows Advocate Harsha Vardhan Gujjeti's Public Interest Litigation (PIL), which brought attention to the dearth of essential medical facilities outside the High Court's grounds, including ambulances and on-site health centers.

The petition, which asked the court to intervene and guarantee that every judicial complex has qualified medical staff and life-saving equipment, was heard by a division bench presided over by Acting Chief Justice Sujoy Paul and Justice Renuka Yara. The PIL brought up the tragic event of senior Advocate P. Venugopal Rao's collapse from a heart attack on February 18, when he was arguing a matter before a bench of just one judge. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at Osmania General Hospital, despite the prompt response of colleagues attorneys who tried CPR and hurried him there. The petitioner stressed that things might have turned out differently if there had been adequate emergency facilities.

Senior Counsel G. Vidya Sagar, speaking on behalf of the High Court Registrar, told the bench that a status report on the matter would be delivered by Thursday. A follow-up hearing has been set for April 21 by the court.
