Hyderabad Railway Plans Gain Momentum After Telangana CM Meets Ashwini Vaishnaw
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has called on Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to accelerate the development of three proposed high-speed rail corridors connecting Hyderabad with Chennai, Bengaluru and Pune. He also requested that the process of land acquisition begin at the earliest to prevent delays.
During a meeting held in Parliament, the Chief Minister offered 500 acres of land near Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad to support the project. He emphasised that early execution would significantly strengthen regional connectivity and economic activity.

Proposal to develop Shamshabad as integrated transport hub
Revanth Reddy suggested that all three bullet train corridors originate from Shamshabad. With the international airport already located there, he said the area could evolve into a combined air-rail transit hub, allowing seamless travel between flights and high-speed trains.
If implemented, the three corridors would connect Hyderabad to major cities across southern and western India:
- Hyderabad-Chennai: approximately 778 km
- Hyderabad-Bengaluru: approximately 586 km
- Hyderabad-Pune: approximately 556 km
The Chief Minister noted that the Hyderabad-Chennai route is expected to pass through Amaravati. He proposed an additional railway connection from Amaravati to Bandar port to enhance cargo movement between inland logistics hubs and the coastal port, strengthening export and import operations.
Demand for Central support for Krishna-Vikarabad line
Apart from the high-speed corridors, Revanth Reddy sought full financial backing from the Centre for the proposed Krishna-Vikarabad railway line. He pointed out that the Telangana government has already agreed to bear the land acquisition expenses and requested Central budget allocation for construction work.
Highlighting the industrial potential along the route, the Chief Minister said limestone deposits have been identified at Tekulapadu. The state plans to encourage cement and textile industries in the region, using improved rail infrastructure to facilitate movement of raw materials and finished goods.
He added that the Krishna belt is located close to cement manufacturing centres in neighbouring Karnataka and is linked to Kodangal constituency. Plans are underway to develop Kodangal, Tekulapadu and Daulatabad as industrial clusters to boost employment and economic growth.
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw responded positively to the proposals and assured that the matter would be examined for further action.
Several Members of Parliament and senior officials from both the Telangana government and the Centre attended the meeting where these infrastructure projects were discussed.
