'Gruha Jyothi' Scheme: What Should You Do If You Don't Have Aadhaar Card To Get Free Electricity?
In the maiden budget presented earlier this month, the Telangana government earmarked Rs 53,196 crore for the implementation of its six poll 'guarantees' with the overall outlay being Rs 2,75,891 crore.
The six poll 'guarantees' of Congress include Rs 2,500 assistance per month to women and cooking gas cylinders for Rs 500 for eligible households. Notably, the government headed by Revanth Reddy is also providing 200 units of electricity to eligible beneficiaries under 'Gruha Jyothi' scheme.

'Gruha Jyothi' Scheme
The Gruha Jyothi Scheme is designed to offer financial assistance to the state's inhabitants. Through this initiative, the government offers free electricity usage for up to 200 units per month.
Is an Aadhaar Card Mandatory To Get Free Electricity under the scheme?
The Telangana government has mandated Aadhar details for eligibility under the 'Gruha Jyothi' scheme. Guidelines have been issued by the government to outline the eligibility criteria for the scheme. Emphasizing the use of Aadhaar details, the government aims to streamline service delivery and ensure transparency, efficiency, and seamless distribution of benefits.
What You Should Do If You Don't Have Aadhaar Card?
Residents without Aadhaar cards can enrol for one and register for the scheme using the application slip to avail of the benefits. Alternatively, other documents such as a Bank or Post Office passbook with a photo, Permanent Account Number (PAN) card, Passport, Ration Card, Voter Identity card, MGNREGA card, Kisan Photo passbook, Driving license, or any other document issued by a gazetted officer can be submitted.
In cases where Aadhaar authentication fails due to issues such as poor biometrics or other reasons, beneficiaries can use the Aadhaar Time password or Time-based one Time Password for authentication.
