5.3 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Telangana's Mulugu
Telangana experienced a 5.3 magnitude earthquake on Wednesday morning, as reported by the National Centre for Seismology (NCS). The tremors were recorded at 7:27 AM, with the epicenter located in the Mulugu region at a depth of 40 kilometers, according to NCS data.
In a post on X, NCS shared the details: "EQ of M: 5.3, On: 04/12/2024 07:27:02 IST, Lat: 18.44 N, Long: 80.24 E, Depth: 40 Km, Location: Mulugu, Telangana." Fortunately, no casualties or significant damage have been reported so far.

India is divided into four seismic zones based on earthquake risk: Zone II (low intensity), Zone III (moderate intensity), Zone IV (high intensity), and Zone V (very high intensity). Telangana falls under Zone II, indicating a low seismicity zone.

Nationwide, approximately 11% of the land is in Zone V, 18% in Zone IV, 30% in Zone III, and the remaining 41% in Zone II. Overall, around 59% of India's landmass is prone to earthquakes of varying intensities.
