Guwahati, April 27: One person travelling with a huge cache of explosives was caught at Guwahati railway station on Sunday. The man was identified as Raidar Bhutia, a resident of Darjeeling in West Bengal, and he was nabbed by a sleuth of the government railway police (GRP).

The police seized at least 20 kilograms of gelatin and detonators from Bhutia. The GRP said that he was travelling to Darjeeling from Shillong via Guwahati. He was waiting to board the Kanchenjunga Express and said he was an army man but the police suspected his identity.

The police suspect Bhutia of having links with Maoist rebels.

At least 20 kgs of gelatin and detonators were seized from Bhutia.

Bhutia, however, denied such charges and said he was carrying the explosives for fishing purposes. He said the explosives are blasted in rivers to catch fish.

The Lok Sabha election is currently underway in west Bengal. Two phases have already taken place while the third is scheduled to take place on April 30.
