Assam floods: Nearly 25,000 affected, 4 relief camps opened

Guwahati, June 24: Nearly 25,000 people have been affected in the first round of floods in four districts of Assam.

According to an official release by Assam State Disaster Management Authority, Lakhimpur, Darrang, Sonitpur and Udalguri districts have been affected by the Brahmaputra and its tributary Jiabharali.

Authorities have opened four relief camps in Darrang and one in Sonitpur and over 9,500 people are taking shelter in those camps.

Flood has been reported from seven revenue circles and 43 villages in these districts.

The Brahmaputra River is flowing above the danger level at Numaligarh, while the Jiabharali is flowing above the danger mark in Sonitpur.

Lakhimpur, Darrang, Sonitpur and Udalguri districts have been affected

Heavy rains continuing for last few days in the upper stream of Arunachal Pradesh and also in the state have affected people across many places.

The National Highway-15 connecting Tezpur with Dhemaji has been blocked since last night at Banderdewa in Lakhimpur district due to heavy landslide at Pathali Pahar.
