Siddaramaiah Govt Bans 'Hamare Baarah' In Karnataka

Citing law and order issues, the Siddaramaiah government has banned the screening of controversial Hindi movie 'Hamare Baarah'.

The Karnataka government has imposed ban on the movie in the state for two weeks or until further notice in accordance with the Karnataka Cinema Regulations Act 1964, sections 15(1) and 15(5).

The Karnataka government claimed that the release of 'Hamare Baarah' had the potential to spark communal tension within the state. This decision came following appeals from various minority groups and delegations, as well as a review of the movie trailer by authorities. Originally scheduled for nationwide release on June 7, 2024, the film's release was put on hold.

'Hamare Baarah', delving into the issue of overpopulation, has drawn notice for its daring storytelling and reflective subject matter. Featuring Annu Kapoor, Manoj Joshi, and Paritosh Tripathi, it has sparked widespread interest and anticipation. The decision to impose a stay has raised substantial concerns among the producers, who have made significant investments in the film's production and distribution.

Responding to the ban, actor Manoj Joshi told ANI: "I am an artist, I have done this film, but some people have opposed it. I am specifically saying that this movie was not made to target any religion. Today, there are discussions about the respect of women in our country. In any society, there should be no disrespect to women.

A woman is not an object or a thing; she should be respected, as has been happening in this land of India. Secondly, that film talks about various topics such as education, upbringing, employment, women's respect and empowerment, and population. So, everyone should watch this film with their families."

Earlier, the film grabbed headlines when the Bombay High Court issued a stay until June 14. However, during an evening hearing on Thursday, the Bombay High Court lifted the injunction on the release.

The first show of the movie will be screened at 10 am today.
