Nora Fatehi Got No Money For Item Number Songs Kamariya And Dilbar; Calls Them Great Opportunity
Nora Fatehi, a prominent dancer in the entertainment industry, recently shared her struggles at the start of her career. Despite her current success, she revealed that she wasn't compensated for her performances in the popular songs "Dilbar" and "Kamariya." Released in 2018, "Dilbar" has garnered over a billion views on YouTube.
During an interview, Fatehi explained that when she was offered these songs, her primary focus was to establish herself rather than earn money. She stated, "When I met the creators of these two songs… which I never got paid for, by the way, I did them for free. And I did them for free because I said that it's not the time for me to make money, right now is the time for me to prove myself and to make a name, and to work with credible people."

Opportunities Over Earnings
Fatehi saw both "Satyameva Jayate" (featuring John Abraham) and "Stree" (produced by Dinesh Vijan) as significant opportunities. She prioritised these projects over financial gain despite needing money at that time. She expressed, "All these things made more sense than to actually make money at that time, even though, trust me, I needed it. I needed money, but I was like, 'It's okay, let's prioritise this first'."
Her vision for these songs was to create something unique and family-friendly. Fatehi wanted them to be dance-focused experiences rather than just typical item numbers. She said she aimed for viewers to appreciate the choreography and feel inspired to try it themselves.
Choreography Challenges
The actress insisted on choreography-heavy performances and even trained dancers for "Dilbar." She believed in pushing boundaries with dance moves and making them central to the visual experience.
Before filming these songs, Fatehi faced severe financial difficulties. She struggled with paying rent and affording food. This led to a period where she became extremely thin due to lack of nutrition. Additionally, she mentioned being exploited by a modelling agency that withheld her earnings.
"I went through a phase where I was so skinny and borderline anorexic because I didn't have money to eat much," she shared. The exploitation extended beyond financial issues as foreign models were often taken advantage of without proper compensation.
Nora Fatehi's journey highlights the challenges many face in the entertainment industry before achieving success. Her dedication and willingness to work without pay demonstrate her commitment to building a reputable career.
