It may be recalled that Leo Hamsavirdhan's first wife Shanthi had passed away in 2021 after testing positive for COVID-19.

Who Is Hamsavirdhan?

Hamsavirdhan was initially set to debut in Anandham Anandham, which began production in 1998. However, delays led to the film's eventual release as Vadagupatti Maapillai in 2001. Due to these setbacks, he started another project with the same director, V. C. Guhanathan, titled Mahajithan, but it never materialized. Similarly, a film called Vendumadi Nee Yenakku, co-starring Abbas, Karan, and Preetha Vijayakumar, was also shelved.

His first actual release was Maanaseega Kadhal, where he played a dual role, but the film underperformed at the box office. Another project, Ammu, featuring Abitha as his lead, was also abandoned during this period.

In 2002, Hamsavirdhan gained attention with the commercially successful multi-starrer Punnagai Desam, sharing the screen with Tarun, Sneha, Preitha, and Kunal. Critics praised his performance, with one noting that while his debut had been underwhelming, Punnagai Desam proved his potential. That same year, he made his Telugu debut under the name Harshavardhan in Kondaveeti Simhasanam, playing Laya's boyfriend. He also starred alongside Malayalam veteran Mammootty in Junior Senior, but despite the star power, the film unexpectedly flopped.

He reunited with his father (a director) for Manthiran, which generated buzz for their collaboration. Plans were announced for another father-son project, Kandeepan, and he was initially cast in Nagu's Idiot, but Yogi later replaced him. Neither Kandeepan nor Idiot materialized with him. His next release, Piragu, required him to shave his head, yet the film went unnoticed. Later attempts, such as Guru and Bomman (2009), were also abandoned mid-production.

In 2012, Hamsavirdhan played for the Chennai Rhinos in the Celebrity Cricket League. After a long hiatus, he announced his acting comeback in 2018 with Peetru, though the film remains unreleased.
