Kantara Actor Viju Dies In Thirthahalli After Suffering Heart Attack
The much-awaited Kannada film Kantara 2, helmed by Rishab Shetty, seems to be caught in a string of unfortunate events-one after the other-raising concerns and casting a shadow over its smooth progress towards an October 2025 release.
The latest blow came with the sudden demise of mimicry artist Viju V. K., a native of Thrissur, Kerala, who was part of the film's crew. Viju suffered a heart attack late Wednesday night near Agumbe in Thirthahalli, where he was staying at a homestay. Though immediate arrangements were made to shift him to a nearby hospital, he passed away on the way. His death has left the team and fans in mourning, as his body now awaits his family at J.C. Hospital in Thirthahalli.

This comes barely a month after another tragic incident where Kabeel, a 32-year-old crew member from Kottayam, drowned in the Souparnika River near Kollur. The accident occurred while he was swimming with colleagues after a day's shoot. Despite quick rescue attempts, he could not be saved.
Junior Artiste Drown In Souparnika River
Before the back-to-back deaths, a bus carrying 20 junior artistes from the film met with an accident in Udupi. The bus overturned while they were returning to Kollur after a shoot at Mudoor in Jadkal. Though no casualties were reported, the incident added to the growing list of safety concerns around the project.
Apart from these tragic and alarming events, Kantara 2 has also stirred environmental controversy. The production team was accused of violating ecological norms during a shoot at Heruru village. Locals raised objections over the use of explosives, which reportedly disturbed the area's ecosystem and peace.
It may be recalled that 'Daiva' (refers to divine spirits or deities unique to coastal Karnataka) had warned Rishab Shetty a ritual at Derebail in Mangaluru in had hinted that the movie will face hurdles.
"You have enemies across the world. There are those who seek to destroy your home and your work," the deity is said to have warned. "But do not fear. The 'Daiva' you believe in will never abandon you." The spirit further assured, "Though I won't reveal who is behind this, I will shield you from harm. Make a vow of service, and all will be set right within five months."
While the film continues to be in the spotlight due to high expectations following the blockbuster success of Kantara, it is increasingly being seen in the news for the wrong reasons. With multiple mishaps, Kantara 2 is now navigating a tough road ahead, where managing production might prove just as challenging as meeting creative expectations.
