Kalki Story

In the dystopian world of 2898 AD, Kashi stands as the last city on Earth. Supreme Yaskin (Kamal Haasan), the autocratic ruler of the city's inner sanctum known as Complex, dreams of creating a new world. To achieve this, he establishes a fertility lab and identifies Sumathi (Deepika Padukone) as the ideal candidate for his grand experiment. The unborn child, Kalki, of Sumathi, also known as SUM-80, becomes the focal point of this experiment.

Simultaneously, Bhairava (Prabhas), a relentless bounty hunter, yearns to enter Complex for a chance at a better life. However, his path collides with the mysterious Ashwatthama (Amitabh Bachchan), who has a mission to rescue Sumathi and the unborn child from Yaskin's grasp. A fierce confrontation unfolds as Bhairava, motivated by the bounty on Sumathi, faces off against Ashwatthama.

The story is driven by several compelling questions: Will Bhairava succeed in delivering Sumathi to Complex? What drives Ashwatthama to protect her? What hidden history links Ashwatthama and Bhairava? How far will Yaskin go to achieve his vision? Who is Sumathi really, and is she connected to the enigmatic 'Rebels of Shambala'? These mysteries unfold as the narrative builds towards a thrilling climax on the big screen.

Kalki Review

'Kalki 2898 AD' is a larger-than-life sci-fi action experience with world-class visuals, offering a truly immersive experience. However, Ashwin's inexperience shows in the somewhat flat screenplay, which lacks the depth of drama and emotional connection that could have elevated the film further.

Despite these flaws, Ashwin manages to deliver a couple of very good sequences, especially the climax, which is both thrilling and goosebumps-worthy. This is a movie that should be experienced on the big screen for its visual spectacle.

Prabhas, despite limited screen time, does a good job in a fun character and delivers a fan-worthy sequence in the climax. The rest of the cast, especially Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone, take up the majority of the screen space and deliver solid performances.

Kudos to the entire team of 'Kalki 2898 AD' for attempting to bring a unique and ambitious movie to Indian cinema. Ashwin shows signs of both brilliance and inexperience. He excels in focusing on the visuals and the finer details of the world he has created but falls short in establishing a compelling emotional core.

The cameos, with the exception of Mrunal, feel wasted, and Vijay Deverakonda's cameo is particularly odd. The background score by SaNA is effective in some places but merely adequate in others.

In short, 'Kalki 2898 AD' is a visually stunning film with a few narrative shortcomings. It is a must-watch for its cinematic experience and the ambitious vision it brings to the screen.
