Hridayapoorvam 1st Day Box Office Collection: Mohanlal-Starrer Off To Decent Start

Sathyan Anthikad's Hridayapoorvam, starring Mohanlal and Malavika Mohanan, opened in theatres on Thursday with a decent performance at the box office. Coming after Mohanlal's blockbuster Thudarum, the film carried considerable expectations, especially among family audiences, who form the director's core fan base.

Early trends show that the movie has made a respectable beginning, though its appeal is largely concentrated in Kerala, with other regions posting modest figures.

Hridayapoorvam Box Office - Day 1

On its first day, Hridayapoorvam registered an overall Malayalam occupancy of 33.89 percent across India. The morning shows began slowly at 26.29 percent, followed by an almost similar turnout of 24.80 percent for the afternoon shows. The response picked up by evening, with occupancy rising to 35.74 percent, and finally peaked during the night shows, which reported an encouraging 48.73 percent, as per Sacnilk data. This steady improvement through the day suggests that word of mouth among audiences was favourable, particularly in the family segment.

In terms of earnings, the film collected around ₹3.25 crore India net on its opening day, according to early estimates. While this is not an extraordinary figure for a Mohanlal release, it does represent a solid start for a film of this genre, which typically gains strength over the weekend as family audiences prefer evening and holiday screenings.

Region Wise Performance

Regionally, Kerala emerged as the strongest market by a wide margin. Kottayam stood out as the top-performing district with an exceptional 73.50 percent occupancy from just eight shows, many of which were running near capacity. Kochi too reported healthy business with 58.25 percent overall, driven by excellent turnout in evening and night shows, some of which touched 87 percent.

Thrissur and Kollam recorded similar success, averaging 52.25 and 52.75 percent respectively, while Kozhikode was not far behind at 45 percent. Trivandrum, despite having the highest number of shows in the state at 163, clocked a lower 36 percent overall occupancy, though night shows crossed the 59 percent mark, reflecting late traction. Alappuzha fared moderately at 34.75 percent but still held better than markets outside Kerala.

Outside Kerala

Beyond the state, the picture was mixed. Bengaluru offered a wide release with 209 shows, but the response was muted, with occupancy averaging only 15.75 percent. Chennai was slightly better at 19 percent across 80 shows, while Hyderabad trailed at just 13 percent. In northern metros like the National Capital Region and Mumbai, occupancy remained in the 18 to 20 percent range, largely supported by pockets of the Malayali diaspora. The film's appeal in these markets appears limited, underscoring that Hridayapoorvam is very much a Kerala-driven release at this stage.

Overall, Hridayapoorvam has had a decent start at the box office. While the opening day numbers may not match the highs of Mohanlal's more commercial outings, the strong presence in Kerala, particularly in towns like Kochi, Kottayam, and Thrissur, provides a solid foundation. The encouraging rise in evening and night show occupancies hints at a positive word-of-mouth effect, which could play a decisive role in shaping the film's weekend performance. If the trend continues, the film is likely to see stronger collections over Friday and Saturday, consolidating its position as a family entertainer with enduring appeal.
