‘He Knew Everything’: Kala Hiran Director Reacts To Govind Namdev Amid Salman Khan Row
Actor Govind Namdev has publicly distanced himself from Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy, a film inspired by the 1998 blackbuck poaching case. The film, produced by Amit Jani, casts Namdev as an advocate who fights for justice on behalf of the Bishnoi community. However, controversy erupted after the release of the film's first-look teaser, with many viewers linking its storyline to Salman Khan.

Soon after the teaser sparked debate, Namdev claimed that he was unaware of the film's actual narrative and alleged that he had not been informed about its true intent when he signed on for the project.
Legal Notice Follows Namdev's Claims
Producer Amit Jani reportedly sent Namdev a legal notice after his statement. The notice demanded a public apology within seven days and sought a penalty of Rs 50 lakh to be paid to the production house.
Now, in an interview with News18, the film's director, Bharat S Shrinate, has addressed the controversy. Shrinate said that the veteran actor was fully aware of the film's content from the beginning.
"He knew each and every thing that the film entails. I respect him a lot as a senior artist. But since it's a legal matter, I wouldn't want to comment further," Shrinate stated.
Namdev Says He Wouldn't Be Part Of A Film Against Salman Khan
In a previous interview, Namdev said that he would never knowingly participate in a project that targeted Salman Khan. He also alleged that the film was initially introduced to him under the title Sambhal rather than Kala Hiran.
Sonu Mmishra's Claims Add More Drama
The controversy expanded further when actor Sonu Mmishra, who appeared alongside Salman Khan in Sikandar, claimed that he had originally been offered the lead role in Kala Hiran. Mmishra said that he quit the project after shooting for a couple of days because the makers wanted him to speak against Salman Khan in the media as part of the film's promotion.
Director Denies Knowing Sonu Mmishra
Shrinate strongly rejected these allegations and even questioned Mmishra's involvement in the project. According to the director, he had never seen him on set and was unaware of who he was.
"Is he an actor? I didn't see him on set. I don't know him," Shrinate said, dismissing the claims.
Makers Stand By The Film Despite Ongoing Challenges
The director also expressed surprise over Namdev's comments, saying that the entire cast, including Namdev and actor Mukesh Tiwari, had cooperated fully during production.
According to Shrinate, the filming process was smooth, and everyone worked together professionally. This is why he found the actor's recent statements unexpected.
Salman Khan's Legal Challenge And Release Plans
Meanwhile, Salman Khan has approached the Delhi High Court seeking a stay on the film. Through his legal team, Khan has argued that Kala Hiran is based on the blackbuck poaching case allegedly involving him. He claims that this violates an earlier Delhi High Court order protecting his personality rights.
Despite the legal hurdles, Shrinate remains confident about the film's future. He said the team hopes to release Kala Hiran next month.
The director argued that films based on historical incidents, crimes, and sensitive real-life events are made regularly. He maintained that Kala Hiran is inspired by an incident that took place in Jodhpur and insisted that Salman Khan is not portrayed in the film in any manner. Shrinate also claimed that the project continues to receive support from members of the film industry.
