'GOAT' Movie Review: What's Good, What's Bad; Find Out From Viewers' Words

Thalapathy Vijay's 'The Greatest of All Time' is a science fiction action film directed by Venkat Prabhu and produced by AGS Entertainment.

Apart from Vijay, the movie has Prashanth, Prabhu Deva, Ajmal Ameer, Mohan, Jayaram, Sneha, Laila, Meenakshi Chaudhary, Vaibhav, Yogi Babu, Premgi Amaren and Yugendran in the cast.

The film's technical crew features some of the industry's best, with music by Yuvan Shankar Raja, editing by Venkat Raajen, and cinematography by Siddhartha Nuni.

'GOAT' Story

Vijay portrays Gandhi, a highly skilled member of the Special Anti-Terrorist Squad (SATS). The story kicks off with Gandhi successfully completing a mission in Kenya, where he eliminates a notorious terrorist gang led by Menon (played by Mohan).

Fast forward a few years, while on a mission in Bangkok, Gandhi faces a devastating blow when he discovers his son, Jeevan (also portrayed by Vijay), dead.

However, the plot takes a surprising twist when Gandhi encounters Jeevan alive in Russia several years later. Together, they return home, but strange and unsettling events begin to unfold involving Gandhi's SATS colleagues. Determined to uncover the truth, Gandhi embarks on a dangerous journey filled with intrigue and deception.

GOAT Review

Vijay's 'The Greatest of All Time (GOAT)' starts off with a bang but struggles to maintain its momentum throughout the second half. The first half of the film is cleverly written, with an engaging screenplay that pulls the audience in, thanks to well-timed twists and superb pacing. However, as the film progresses, the second half feels overly stretched and tedious, despite the occasional engaging twist.

One of the film's strongest aspects is undoubtedly Thalapathy Vijay's performance. He carries the movie on his shoulders, and his portrayal of a younger character stands out as one of the most unique roles in his career. His energy and charisma breathe life into many scenes, making them more enjoyable than they might have been otherwise.

What Doesn't Work

On the downside, the film suffers from subpar music and background score, with only a few moments where the music matches the intensity of the scenes. In fact, there are several sequences where a stronger soundtrack could have elevated the impact, especially in the second half. Additionally, the movie's runtime could have been trimmed by at least 20 minutes to avoid the feeling of dragging in later parts.

Venkat Prabhu shows flashes of brilliance, particularly in some of the mass action sequences and when unravelling the film's twists. Yet, at times, he hampers the film's flow, often inserting emotional scenes followed by random, out-of-place dance numbers, disrupting the pacing and emotional buildup.

The action sequences, while initially exciting, become overlong and a bit superficial by the end. The de-ageing effects on Vijay are well-executed and impressive, adding to the visual appeal, but the overall impact of the second half could have been significantly better with tighter editing and more impactful music.

In conclusion, despite its flaws, 'The Greatest of All Time' is a passable watch.

The movie will be premiered in the US on September 4 while Tamil Nadu will have its the first show of the movie at 7 am.

Venky Reviews: #TheGreatestofAllTime a Decent 1st Half followed by a Strictly Average 2nd Half. While the screenplay was dealt well in the 1st half, the 2nd half feels way too lengthy and tedious at times despite engaging twists.

Thalapathy was superb in this one and carried the film on his shoulders. His younger character will remain one of the most unique in his career.

Apart from a few places, the music/bgm is very below par and failed to elevate many scenes. Film could've been edited down by 20 minutes.

Keeping the flaws aside, Film ends up as a passable watch that can be given try for its unique narration and Thalapathy's performance.

Venkat Prabhu showed his talent during the staging of a few mass scenes and when unraveling twists. At the same time, there were situations where he hurt the film's flow like multiple instances of an emotional scene followed by a random dance number out of nowhere. #GOAT

Decent 1st Half!

Siddarth Srinivas: #TheGOAT (3.75/5) - Fun festival. It's a fully blown commercial package from @vp_offl, he picks up a neat storyline and keeps the 'moments' coming one after the other until the very end, making it a joyride. Yes the film has a few lulls in its second half and could've had a shorter runtime, but it serves what the audiences want in terms of the surprises and everyday references that will be a SLAM BANG experience in theatres.

#ThalapathyVijay once again proves the amazing star-performer he is, showing great variation in the two roles. Calm and composed Gandhi is just too good, while the over-energetic Jeevan is a live wire. Proper fan service too!

Amidst the support cast, liked @actorprashanth and Sneha. The film definitely needed more from Yuvan in the technical department.

On the whole, #TheGreatestOfAllTime is an enjoyable free flowing entertainer that will serve the fans and family audiences right. Paisa vasool!

Abhishek: #GOAT First half was okay with comedy working only in bits. Felt a bit long. Second half picked up well. Last 45 mins were great-paisa vasool for Annan and CSK fans! Yuvan's BGM was fantastic, and the cameos and easter eggs were a nice touch. Decent commercial entertainer.

#TheGreatestOfAllTime - 3.5 out of 5, @vp_offl has packed this one with several high moments and pop culture references (to cricket and movies)! The film is nothing sort of a celebration, especially the last thirty minutes is a treat to Thalapathy Vijay fans and MS Dhoni fans! #ThalapathyVijay has showed several variations as Ilayathalapathy (with many shades) and #Thalapathy as usual steals the show! The film definitely has pace issues with lengthy action sequences and passable background score but it manages to entertain us throughout. VP has packaged the movie to celebrate
@actorvijay and he has pulled it off for sure 👍 don't miss the end credits and bloopers just after the high octane climax !

VIVEK:#GOAT - Waste of time
There is nothing in the movie except flashy visuals, sounds and AI tech, You need story to engage with people. Potential of entire star cast is wasted. Worst send off to Vijay. Vijay should have avoided this movie.

Haricharan Pudipeddi: #GOAT at interval. VP delivers what was promised. A globe-trotting action spectacle with a lot of focus on drama involving family angle and a couple of well-shot mission sequences. Interval block the biggest highlight of the first half 👌👌#Matta was a screamer on screen. With Trisha's cameo and Thalapathy's electric moves, it was nothing less than a perfect theatrical moment in the second half 👌

Worth the first half🤩

Zan: Okay.. I did NOT like #GOAT. It was very draggy, 90s formula of a movie template, with convenient lazy writing and very predictable. Loved #Sneha and the Chinna Chinna Kangal song.. No other song worked for me and bgm was very ordinary. Its somewhere b/w Indian 2 and Varisu. 🥲🙏🏽
