From Rs 50,000 To Stardom: Manoj Bajpayee Opens Up About First Film Salary
Manoj Bajpayee, whose recent film 'Bhaiyya' hit screens last Friday, has opened up about his early days in the film industry, reflecting on his journey from humble beginnings to success.
The acclaimed actor, known for his breakthrough role in Shekhar Kapur's 'Bandit Queen' (1994), revealed insights into his first paycheck during an interview with Mashable Middle East. Recalling his days working in Chef Ranveer Brar's restaurant kitchen, Bajpayee shared, "For 'Bandit Queen,' I received Rs 50,000. Six years later, without naming the film, I earned Rs 1,50,000."

Since his debut, Bajpayee's career has been on an upward trajectory, with standout performances earning him widespread recognition, notably in Ram Gopal Varma's 'Satya' (1998). However, he faced challenges early on, as recounted in an anecdote about his fee being halved for a TV show directed by Anubhav Sinha due to his character's lack of dialogue.
Reflecting on the power of cinema in sparking change, Bajpayee emphasized that while films alone may not initiate movements, they serve as a mirror of society. "Cinema can't start movements. It can be part of the movement," he stated in a recent interview.
'Bhaiyya Ji,' directed by Apoorv Singh Karki, marks Bajpayee's latest outing. The film, which premiered today, follows their collaboration on 'Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai,' which debuted on Zee 5.
