Diljit Dosanjh's Hyderabad Concert Raises Concerns Over Artistic Freedom And Restrictions

Diljit Dosanjh's concert in Hyderabad has been a hot topic after the Telangana government warned him against performing songs that glorify alcohol, drugs, and violence. During his performance on Saturday, Diljit responded to the notice by criticising the government's double standards. He highlighted how international artists face no such restrictions while Indian performers are scrutinised.

In an Instagram clip shared by his team, Diljit addressed the audience, saying, "Koi bahar se kalakaar ayega woh jo marzi gaa k jaaye, jo marzi kare koi tension nahi hai. Lekin apna kalakaar ghar aa raha hai, usme tainu pareshani, taang adani hai. Par main bhi ek baat bata doon, Dosanjh ka rab hai, main nahi chhodunga (If an artist comes from outside the country, they can sing anything, do anything, there are no worries. But when an Indian artist sings, then you have a problem; you have to interfere. But let me tell you, there is God. I won't let this go)."

Concert Highlights and Reactions

Many moments from Diljit's Hyderabad show have become popular online. He altered some of his well-known song lyrics in response to the government's directive. For instance, in his song Lemonade, he changed "Tainu teri daaru ch pasand aa Lemonade" to "Tainu teri coke ch pasand aa Lemonade." Similarly, for 5 Taara, he modified "5 Taara thekke utthe" to "5 Taara hotel ch."

Diljit also addressed scepticism about his show's success and ticket sales speed during the concert. He remarked on people's disbelief regarding the scale of his performances and how quickly tickets sell out. He stated, "Kai logo ko toh digest nahi horaha ki itne bade shows ho kyu rahe hai? Yeh ticket 2 minute mein bik kaise jaati hai. Bro, main bohut der se kaam kar raha hoon. Main ek din mein famous nahi hua (Some people aren't able to digest why such big shows are happening. How are these tickets getting sold in two minutes? Bro, I've been working for a long time. I didn't become famous in one day)."

The controversy surrounding Diljit's concert highlights ongoing debates about artistic freedom and cultural biases within India. His remarks have sparked discussions on social media about how Indian artists are treated compared to their international counterparts.

Despite the challenges faced by local artists like Diljit Dosanjh due to governmental restrictions and societal expectations, their resilience continues to shine through their performances and interactions with fans.
