Did 'Manjummel Boys' Makers Really Pay Rs 60 Lakh To Ilaiyaraaja To Settle 'Kanmani Anbodu' Dispute?

In a recent development surrounding the Malayalam film 'Manjummel Boys', it has been reported that producers Soubin Shahir, Babu Shahir, and Shawn Antony may have paid Rs 60 lakh as compensation to renowned composer Ilaiyaraaja.

This payment is reportedly related to the unauthorized use of the song 'Kanmani Anbodu' from the Tamil film 'Gunaa'.

Did Manjummel Boys Makers Really Pay Rs 60 Lakh To Ilaiyaraaja To Settle Kanmani Anbodu Dispute

Speculations were rife that Ilaiyaraaja had initially demanded Rs 2 crore after 'Manjummel Boys' became a blockbuster hit. The film, directed by Chidambaram, featured the iconic song in its climax, which many believe played a significant role in the film's success.

The movie has grossed over Rs 200 crore worldwide, cementing its status as a major commercial success.

However, the producers claimed that they had secured the rights to the song in Tamil and Telugu from the respective audio labels, Pyramid and Sreedevi Sounds, but this assertion has been disputed by Ilaiyaraaja's legal team, who refute the claim of any official settlement.

According to a report in a website, Ilaiyaraaja's lawyer has stated that he is unaware of any compensation agreement, and the composer's PR team has confirmed that no discussions have taken place between Ilaiyaraaja and the 'Manjummel Boys' team.
