Dharmendra Health Update: After Being Wrongly Declared Dead, Actor Discharged From Hospital

After the internet and TV channels wrongly declared him dead, legendary actor Dharmendra was on Wednesday discharged from Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai.

His family has decided to take him home for treatment, his treating doctor told PTI.

"Dharmendra ji was discharged from the hospital around 7.30 am. He will be treated at home as the family has decided to give him treatment at home," the news agency quoted Dr Pratit Samdani as saying.

He was recently admitted to the hospital after he complained of breathlessness. Although the 89-year-old actor has been on and off the hospital for weeks, a few TV channels wrongly declared him dead this time.

The 'rest in peace' message added to the confusion. Several politicians and film personalities too expressed condolences following misinformation.

While Sunny Deol's team had first issued a statement saying Dharmendra's condition was stable, a large number of netizens started expressing condolences by Monday midnight on social media sites following reports of his death.

However, it was dismissed by rumours by Sunny Deol's team, urging the public not to believe false information.

Again by Tuesday morning, the death speculations started doing for the third time. However, his daughter Esha Deol issued a clarification. In a post on Instagram, she wrote, "The media seems to be in overdrive and spreading false news. My father is stable and recovering. We request everyone to give our family privacy. Thank you for the prayers for papa's speedy recovery,"

Even Dharmendra's wife and BJP MP Hema Malini lashed out at media for spreading wrong news.

In a post on X, she said, "What is happening is unforgivable! How can responsible channels spread false news about a person who is responding to treatment and is recovering? This is extremely disrespectful and irresponsible. Please give due respect to the family and its need for privacy."

Dharmendra, one of Indian cinema's most beloved stars, has appeared in numerous iconic films, including Sholay, Chupke Chupke, Dream Girl, The Burning Train, and Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani. He holds the record for the most consecutive box office hits in 1987, notably with Hukumat.
