After Sunjay Kapur’s Death, His Mother Says She Was Forced To Sign Papers
A dramatic internal battle has emerged within the family of late businessman Sunjay Kapur, just weeks after his death in England this June. In a strongly-worded and emotional letter addressed to the board of Sona Comstar-a company within the Sona Group-his mother, Rani Kapur, has raised serious allegations, accusing certain individuals of coercion and attempting to seize control of the family legacy.
According to sources, the "certain people" referenced in her letter is a direct allusion to Priya Sachdev Kapur, Sunjay Kapur's wife and Rani Kapur's daughter-in-law, who was reportedly slated to be appointed a non-executive director in the company.

Hours before the company's annual general meeting (AGM), Rani Kapur wrote to the board, identifying herself as the majority shareholder in the Sona Group. She claimed she was forced to sign several documents without proper explanation while still mourning the loss of her only son.
In the letter, Ms. Kapur alleged that these documents-signed behind "locked doors"-were presented to her under immense emotional and mental duress, and that despite repeated requests, she had not been informed about their contents.
"Despite being under immense mental and emotional distress, I was coerced into signing such documents behind locked doors and, though I've requested repeatedly, the contents of such documents have never been revealed to me," she wrote.
She also stated she had been denied access to her own financial accounts and left dependent on a "select few" for her basic survival-an alarming claim given her status in the family and the business group.
Sources suggest her objections were prompted by the agenda of the AGM, which included a resolution to appoint certain directors as representatives of the Kapur family. Ms. Kapur firmly denied having nominated anyone for such a role.
"I have not given any consent or officially nominated any person to come on the board of the company, or any other Sona Group company, after my son's demise, or given any consent to any person to represent me in any capacity before any Sona Group company," she stated.
In her letter, which reads like a script from a corporate power struggle turned family drama, Ms. Kapur also referenced alarming reports shared by "well-wishers" regarding alleged irregularities.
"At this stage I do not wish to dilate any further on various gross illegalities... except to state, in no uncertain terms, that it is imperative that no decisions are taken without my consent."
She has demanded that the AGM, originally scheduled for 1 PM, be postponed by two weeks.
The Sona Comstar board has not yet issued a public response to the letter or the allegations.
Sunjay Kapur, a well-known figure in the automotive industry, was previously married to Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor. Following their divorce in 2016, he married model Priya Sachdev in 2017.
