CBSE Portal Glitch: IIT Madras & Kanpur, Banks To Fix The Portal Issue
The Education Ministry has asked IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur experts to help CBSE fix technical problems that hit this year’s post-exam verification and revaluation portal. The joint team will study glitches that disrupted payments and access on 21 and 22 May, and will work with CBSE to stabilise the revaluation system for students.
The disruption led to many students seeking scanned copies being charged either more or less than the notified fee. CBSE controller of examinations Dr Sanyam Bhardwaj has said extra money will be returned through the original payment method, while students who paid less will be told separately if any balance is due.

CBSE revaluation portal IIT Madras technical support
Parents and students had flagged repeated technical glitches, failed transactions and login problems on the CBSE revaluation portal. After these complaints, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan instructed that teams from IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur be deputed. The teams are asked to examine all technical issues reported since the re-evaluation services opened this year.
| Date | Issue on CBSE revaluation portal | Action by CBSE / authorities |
|---|---|---|
| 21 May | Portal errors; wrong fee amounts charged for scanned copies | Decision to refund excess and seek shortfall where needed |
| 22 May | Access problems for applicants; further payment-related glitches | Education Ministry calls in IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur experts |
IIT Madras Director V Kamakoti said the deputed team members understand large web platforms and supporting systems. "A couple of faculty or staff will be deputed, who have experience in handling large-scale web portals and related hardware or software infrastructure," he said. "Their primary role is to perform a root-cause analysis and suggest quick remedies, if needed, followed by long-term solutions that will ensure a robust platform for the children," the director added.
IIT Madras CBSE revaluation portal investigation
Speaking to The Times of India, he said, "Now, the portal is functioning smoothly. A two-member team from IIT Madras, along with a faculty member from IIT Kanpur, will conduct a root cause analysis to know why the portal was not functioning for two days. They will also check whether the portal came under a cyberattack, analyze the log and try to identify the bug," Kamakoti told TOI. "In the cyberattack, they could not steal money. But they could deny service, and prevent students and parents from applying for revaluation. If it is a denial of service, we need to put certain web application firewalls," he added.
He further said the problem could also have been caused by issues in buffering. "The problem could have been caused by the interface between the website and the payment gateway. The team will check the complete health of the portal and suggest remedial measures to CBSE staff to prevent such large-scale disruptions in the future,"
The possible scenarios being checked include denial-of-service attempts, buffering issues and faults at the link between the website and the payment gateway. The experts are expected to review portal logs, validate security measures such as web application firewalls, and then guide CBSE staff on changes that can reduce the risk of another widespread disruption.
CBSE revaluation portal IIT Madras expert committee role
Earlier, the Education Ministry said the expert group from IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur would improve the technology backbone of the system. The committee will look at portal stability, server capacity and the full technical workflow for verification and revaluation requests, so that the platform can handle peak loads without frequent breakdowns.
The ministry added that the review will also cover security and correctness of user access and payments. "The team will also examine the overall IT Infrastructure robustness and assist in taking corrective measures to ensure that login authentication/ user access systems/ payment gateways are accurate and in order," the ministry said.
According to IIT Madras, the experts will continue working with CBSE until faults are clearly identified and resolved. The institute noted that the length of this support depends on what the investigation finds. "They will be associated till the platform becomes robust," Kamakoti stated. Authorities expect that once fixes are in place, students should face fewer technical hurdles during future CBSE revaluation cycles.
