Uttarakhand rains: School children risk their lives

Dehradun, July 15: Due to the heavy rainfall in past few days in Uttarakhand, school children in the state are forced to choose dangerous terrain as the trolley, which is the only means of crossing the river.

The children of Kalimath village in Rudraprayag district are suffering badly due to the ongoing downpour, as the trolley stops working every now and then.

So, the school children have to cross the dangerous route to get back to home.
Ahmed, 13 years, says that "it's really difficult to cross the river Mandakini to get back to home from school as there is no other medium to cross the river."

"Also, it has become a common problem for the residents who reside near the bank of river", he told OneIndia.
Another resident said, "I think it is high time that the state government takes care of this devastation struck state and bring back its past glory."

On Monday, July 6, officials warned of landslides due to the downpour and asked people to avoid hill tracts.

On Saturday, July 11, a massive landslide was reported from Baliyanala in Nainital, the tourist spot which has been battered by downpour for the last few days.
